A method of solving systems by adding or subtracting equations to eliminate a variable Steps to Solve Step 1: Make sure equations are lined up! Step 3: Solve the equation for the remaining variable. Step 2: Add or subtract equations to eliminate the variable with common coefficients Step 4: Substitute your answer into either original equation and solve for the other variable.

When looking UP to an object, the angle of elevation is formed by an observer’s line of sight and a horizontal line. Angle of Depression When looking DOWN to an object, the angle of depression is formed by an observer’s line of sight and a horizontal line. The angle of depression is congruent to the angle of elevation because they are alternate interior angles.

A lifeguard is sitting on a platform, looking down at a swimmer in the water.
