4 Curriculum adaptations
A curriculum consists of the following: academic programme; practical programme and a skills training programme. What are curriculum adaptations? Are modifications that relate specifically to instruction or content of a curriculum. The breaking down or scaffolding of assessment standards into manageable steps. All might not achieve the FET certificate but have developed to his/her full potential

5 Components of CAPS that are adaptable
Content and methods are not prescribed by the learning outcomes Activities can be flexible Context can be made relevant to the learner’s needs More time for assessment Learning programme can be structured to meet the needs of the specific learners Can communicate though Braille and other devices Assessment standards can be broken down into finer components

6 Components that are adaptable (continue)
Time can vary from a period to a term, according to learners’ needs Work schedules and learning programmes are not linked to a grade/year. Differently gifted learners may require acceleration or slowing down of the process. Integration of learning areas in a phase and across phases is possible.

7 Why are curriculum adaptations necessary?
The goal is not to lower the standard but accessible to al learners Learning programmes, Work Schedules and lesson Plans can be modified and adapted to cater for the individual needs of all learners

8 When are curriculum adaptations necessary?
The scale of adaptations will only be determined after a thorough assessment of an individual learner Adaptation will be required for all learners who need specific additional support Parents, teachers , professionals from the community and the school district support teams should be included in any adaptations.
