1 Lesson objective – to understand the stock forms for metals

2 Name me as many metals and alloys that you can!
Starter - Name me as many metals and alloys that you can!

3 Every question you answer will get a point for your team and a chocolate bar at the end of the lesson Alloys and alloying Pure metals have a limited range of properties. By combining two or more metals to produce an alloy, it is possible to produce a material that has a better range of properties and characteristics. This then allows the metals to be used for a range of specific tasks.

4 Remember discussing metals is also science
It's no surprise that if I take a particular metal and 'add' atoms of a second metal that has a lower melting point that the T- melt of the combination is usually lower than that of the pure metal. Brass is 65% copper and 35% zinc

5 How can metals be bought?
Metals can be bought in sheet forms Are usually sold in imperial sizes (what does this mean?) But like timber in metric thickness Many sections such as

6 Task 1 – examination style question complete the material groups the first I have done for you
Different types of textiles materials silk cotton wool nylon Different types of plastics Different types of metals Different types of ceramics Different types of food groups

7 Complete a grouping products table a piece AfL
Lets add the marks together for your team Team A Team B Team C Team D

8 AfL - What is an alloy metal
What is/are alloy metals? What type of temperatures can they be melted at? Name me an alloy? What does the T-melt mean? What type of stock form shapes do metals come in? What type of measurements are metals sold in? What type of thickness measurements? Why is it a good idea to combine two metals? What are your marks for the team?
