(C) Ubiquitin is shown in yellow, with residues essential for viability of S. cerevisiae colored by their location to two patches (Sloper-Mould et al., 2001). The “Ile44” surface and C terminus, where all currently characterized ubiquitin binding domains interact, are colored cyan. Residues in the “Phe4” surface of unknown function are colored red.
