In 1923 a combined French and Belgian force occupied the Ruhr Why did they invade? What were reparations? What was the German governments response? Why could they not use force? What were the main results of the invasion?

The Treaty of Versailles is passed and Germany is told to pay £6.6bn in reparations The government tells the German worker to go on strike – PASSIVE RESISTANCE Pries spiral out of control - HYPERINFLATION Germany loses the war Because the workers are on strike there is no money coming in – the workers still need to be paid The German government stops paying the reparations To pay the money the German government print more money Prices go up as people now have more money to spend so the government prints more money France gets angry and invades the Ruhr (a huge industrial region of Germany)
