2. Biography
James Naismith was born on November 6, 1861 in Almonte, Canada. He then became known as the inventor of basketball. He worked as a physical education coach. Naismith married Maude Evelyn Sherman and had five children together. He is the second child of Scottish immigrants. Naismith suffered from a severe brain hemorrhage. He died nine days later on November 28, 1939 at Lawrence, Kansas.

3. Invention
James Naismith is most known for inventing the game of Basketball. Naismith invented basketball as an indoor sport so people can stay in shape during new England winters. He was a physical education coach, he was assigned a task so he invented basketball. It made athletes stay in shape during winters. He also invented/ designed the very first football helmet to stay safe during game. This is why James Naismith is a great inventor.
