Until 1918, the district was almost entirely part of the county of Kingdom of Hungary of Spiš, and a small area in the east was part of the county of Šariš.

5. Nestville park
Nestville park is located in Hniezdne only 5 km to the west of Stará Ľubovňa.
The name was created by joining the words NEST and VILLE. ‘NEST’ in the meaning of ‘nest’ and ‘VILLE’ as ‘VILLAGE’.
Its aim is to show its visitors the history, traditional crafts and tools used in individual time periods

There is one of the largest wooden pictures in Europe. It depicts a traditional life of people living in the northern Spiš region and the village of Hniezdne .

10. Spa Vyšné Ružbachy
The Spiš Spa of Vyšné Ružbachy, has become well-known mainly thanks to its mineral waters.
The therapeutic effects of the earthy carbonate mineral water springs were also well known in the Middle Ages when the first spa was founded here.
The healing properties of these natural carbonic springs are ensured through the absorption of carbon dioxide into human skin during bathing, which leads to the better skin blood flow.
