Moving Beyond the Rhetoric of Intercultural Kyra Garson, TRU Darla K. Deardorff, Duke/AIEA

2 Coast Salish Lands We acknowledge that we are meeting and learning on the unceeded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm, Skwxwú7mesh, Stó:lō and Selilwitulh Peoples.

3 Articulating Why we Do What we Do
The “means and the end” of internationalization largely unarticulated so… “We have to dig deeper, place the options within a new set of values and rationales, and ensure that we really achieve what is meaningful” (Brandenburg & de Wit, 2011, p. 15).

4 “ We apparently need to talk about our relationships
“ We apparently need to talk about our relationships. We might start by reflecting on what we think we are doing, and why, by poking holes in some of the assumptions embedded in International Education, by looking at things we are talking about, by suggesting things we should be talking about” – Randall Martin

5 Defining our Work: Internationalization is….
'the intentional process of integrating an international, intercultural or global dimension into the purpose, functions and delivery of post-secondary education, in order to enhance the quality of education and research for all students and staff, and to make a meaningful contribution to society” (Knight, 2004; de Wit, Hunter, Howard, & Egron-Polak, 2015)
