It has gained such popularity because it’s frequent episode output, it’s characters and well written story
From this popularity they were able to make 16 movies which were all well received by the fans
The series has also spawned many game series across multiple platforms

5. Audience From being so popular it has quite a diverse audience
The series is watched globally and is viewed by people of all ages
One of the main things that gets people into the series is by word of mouth from friends and the internet

6. Localisation
The series is Japanese and is voice acted in Japanese but many people outside of the country will watch the series with subtitles on
There are a few studios who put out versions of the series that are voiced in English, however the only official one is done by funimation
They are a large studio responsible for redubbing and localising many Japanese series
