Wombats Name: Date: Habitat Wombats are usually found in southern Australia. They live in the grasslands and forests. They dig, and they dig and they dig to make burrows under the ground. This is so that they have shelter and protection from predators. Picture brown fur pointy ears About it’s young Did you know that Wombats are marsupials? This means the mother keeps her baby in a pouch. A baby wombat is called a Joey. Joeys stay in their mother’s pouch for half a year. Wombats are mammals so the babies drink milk. sharp claws for digging Wombats are very strong. Their legs have big muscles so they can dig in the hard ground. Did you know that wombats are nocturnal? They sleep in the day and come out at night. A wombat’s droppings are cube shaped! They build little walls with them outside their burrows to deter predators. Appearance Interesting facts Have you ever seen a wombat? They look like tiny bears. They have small, pointy ears and brown, fluffy fur to keep them warm. On their paws there are razor sharp claws that are used for digging. What enormous front teeth wombats have! They need them to chew through tough roots.
