1 Unit 2: Equilibrium Lesson 7: Le Chatelier and the Keq

2 What does Keq really mean?
Since Keq is the ratio of products to reactants... A large Keq means that a large amount of products is present. A small Keq means that a small amount of products is present.

3 Piecing Things Together
Given the meaning of Keq and considering what you know about Le Chatelier’s Principle, how will Keq change if... the concentration of a reactant is increased? a catalyst is added? the pressure is increased in the equilibrium system: 2 C2H6(s) + 7 O2(g) H2O(l) + 4 CO2(g)? the temperature is decreased in the equilibrium system: 2 NO(g) + Cl2(g) NOCl(g) + 76 kJ? TPS each question – 20 min

4 Summary ONLY a temperature change can effect the value of Keq.
Changes in concentration and pressure have no effect on Keq.

5 Brain Break! Brain break! – 5 min

6 Practice: Pg. 62 #36-41 and 44-46 15 min
