IMPLIMENTATION OF CROP CALENDAR SYSTEM 2013

FARMING SYSTEMS of the NWP is Divided in to THREE with the Levels of WSSV Inducing Factors

GRADING OF PRAWN FARMERS IN TO THREE FARMING SYSTEMS
GRADE A – CLOSED SYSTEM GRADE B – SEMI CLOSED SYSTEM GRADE C – OPEN SYSTEM

GRADE A – CLOSED SYSTEM No water released to the Natural Water body.(Connection to the Natural water body should be closed) Disinfection Facilities/Treated Water should be used Reservoir/Stock Tank – 30% Probiotic Culture to maintain water quality Adequate Aeration Facilities Technical Manager and Technician in the Farm site Laboratory Facilities BMP Specially designed for closed system should be implemented.

GRADE B – SEMI CLOSED SYSTEM
Limited water released to the Natural Water Body through sedimentation ponds. Availability of Disinfection Facilities Reservoir/Stock Tank – 10% Probiotic Culture to maintain water quality Adequate Aeration Facilities Technical Manager and Technician in the Farm site. Laboratory Facilities

GRADE C – OPEN SYSTEM Farming System other than Grade A and B should be graded as Grade C. Highly Vulnerable for diseases Disinfection Facilities not available No Probiotic usage No Technician or Technical Advisors

PRAWN FARM STOCKING PROGRAM
PERIOD ZONE 1 ZONE 2 ZONE 3 ZONE 4 ZONE 5 JANUARY FEBRUARY HIGH RISK PERIOD MARCH APRIL MAY JUNE RISK PERIOD JULY AUGUST SEPTEMBER OCTOBER FAVORABLE PERIOD NOVEMBER DECEMBER

STOCKING PROGRAM Open System Farmers should ONLY be allowed to stock within the favorable period (Green Zone of Six Months). The Stocking Period can be maximum of one month out the SIX Months

STOCKING PROGRAM Semi Closed System Farmers can be allowed to Stock during the Risk Period of Three Months (Yellow Zone) in addition to the Favorable Period (Green Zone). The Maximum Stocking Period During the Risk Period is ONE Month out of THREE Months.

STOCKING PROGRAM CLOSED SYSTEM FARMERS ARE ALLOWED TO STOCK AS SEMI CLOSED SYSTEM FARMERS But they are allowed to stock their nursery ponds early. (Maximum of 45 days prior to the recommended period)

STOCKING PROGRAM NO FARMERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO STOCK DURING THE HIGH RISK PERIOD OF THREE MONTHS (RED ZONE) (Periods shown as Favourable, Risk and High Risk periods in the above chart can be adjusted + or – 15 to 20 days towards favorable side only, depending on the Climatic and Environmental Variations in that particular sub zone. No adjustments towards risk or high risk period)

NEW RECOMMENDATIONS INTRODUCTION OF THE SEVERITY INDEX FOR THE BROOD STOCK (If high severity index level of brood stock for WSSV is found in a particular area, the brood stock purchase should be prohibited) The early stocking can be allowed for the closed system farmers with nursery facilities during the higher production of good quality post lave from the hatcheries

NEW RECOMMENDATIONS All the Shrimp Farms should be advised to disinfect the pond water, when they fill the ponds for stocking of PLs.(50 to 100 Kg Bleaching powder per one acre pond) The water release to the natural system should not be allowed until 45 days. The animals can be checked for WSSV between 30 to 45 days. They can fill the water to compensate for the evaporation loss. The probiotic usage should be promoted to maintain the water quality in the ponds.

NEW RECOMMENDATIONS The PCR tests should be carried out to confirm that the ponds are free from WSSV infections between 30 to 45 days. If positive results for WSSV detected, the ponds should be sealed and animals should be destroyed and buried or burnt. If the pond sample is found negative, the farms can be allowed to do water exchanges after 45days. This procedure will help to prevent the vertical Transmission and the main source of infections of WSSV in the Farming System.
