Don’t Stop Believin’

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, where your fathers tested me, tried me, and saw my works for forty years. Therefore I was provoked to anger with that generation and said, “They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways.” So I swore in my anger “..... Hebrews 3:7–4:11 CSB

They will not enter my rest
They will not enter my rest.” Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception. For we have become participants in Christ if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start... Hebrews 3:7–4:11 CSB

As it is said: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. For who heard and rebelled? Wasn’t it all who came out of Egypt under Moses? With whom was God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who disobeyed? Hebrews 3:7–4:11 CSB

So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief
So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. Therefore, since the promise to enter his rest remains, let us beware that none of you be found to have fallen short. For we also have received the good news just as they did. But the message they heard did not benefit them, since they were not united with those who heard it in faith. For we who have believed enter the rest, in keeping with what he has said, So I swore in my anger... Hebrews 3:7–4:11 CSB

“They will not enter my rest,” even though his works have been finished since the foundation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in this way: And on the seventh day God rested from all his works. Again, in that passage he says, They will never enter my rest. Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news did not enter because of disobedience... Hebrews 3:7–4:11 CSB

he again specifies a certain day—today
...he again specifies a certain day—today. He specified this speaking through David after such a long time: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. Therefore, a Sabbath rest remains for God’s people... Hebrews 3:7–4:11 CSB

For the person who has entered his rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from his. Let us then make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience. Hebrews 3:7–4:11 CSB

True believers persevere in the faith. (Heb. 3:12)

If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9–10 CSB

True believers persevere in the faith. (Heb. 3:12)

2. True believers encourage others in the faith. (Heb. 3:13)

But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception. Hebrews 3:13 CSB

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 CSB

Remind them of Christ’s coming.

Then we who are still alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17–18 CSB

Visit and spend time with others.

Tychicus, our dearly loved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know how we are and so that he may encourage your hearts. Colossians 4:7–8 CSB

Speak words of kindness and help.

Both Judas and Silas, who were also prophets themselves, encouraged the brothers and sisters and strengthened them with a long message. Acts 15:32 CSB

Remind them of the promises of God.

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 CSB

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be shaken. Psalm 55:22 CSB

True believers persevere in the faith. (Heb. 3:12)

True believers encourage others in the faith. (Heb. 3:13)

True believers demonstrate their faith. (Heb. 3:13)

Let us then make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience. Hebrews 4:11 CSB

For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 CSB

Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold
Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. Matthew 24:12–13 CSB
