A and B: Glucose reabsorption via SGLT1 and SGLT2 in normal and diabetic kidney. Expressed apically in the epithelium of the proximal convoluted tubule, SGLT2 reabsorbs about 90% of glucose from the urinary filtrate. The remaining 10% is reabsorbed by SGLT1, a high-affinity and low-capacity transporter expressed apically in the epithelium of the straight descending proximal tubule. Radica Z. Alicic et al.
