3 The “Looking Glass Self”
The concept of the "looking glass self" is undoubtedly his most famous, and is known and accepted by most psychologists and sociologists today. Other people's views build, change and maintain our self-image; thus, there is an interaction between how we see ourselves and how others see us. According to Cooley, in his work "Human Nature and the Social Order", his "looking-glass self" involved three steps. What are those 3 steps?

4 3 steps to the “Looking Glass Self”
These are three elements to the looking-glass self: We imagine how we seem or appear to others We imagine how that appearance is judged by others We experience a feeling or some type of reaction (such as pride or shame.) to this perceived judgement. This feeling is not from ourselves, but rather from the way we are reflected in other people's minds. This is then reflected in how we see ourselves and behave. Picture
