1 At the Upper Room Chapel
Shabbat Shalom Welcome to The Miqra At the Upper Room Chapel Fort Mill, SC May 18, 2019

2 Melchisedek Priest of El Most High

3 The First Occurrence Sets the tone for that subject/person/event Beresheet/Genesis 14

4 Melchi Tzedek After Avram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley). Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of Elohim Most High, and he blessed Avram, saying, "Blessed be Avram by Elohim Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be Elohim Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Avram gave him a tenth of everything. 14:17-20

5 What Does Melchizedek Mean?
This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of Elohim Most High. He met Avraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Avraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace." Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of Elohim he remains a priest forever. Hebrews 7:1-3

6 Who is Melchizedek? A man King of Salem – Jerusalem Without geneology Jewish writings identify him as Shem

7 King and Priest Melchizedek was king of Salem and Priest of El Most High The three offices which are anointed positions are: Prophet, Priest, King

8 A Kingdom of Priests ‘Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the sons of Yisrael. Shemot/Exodus 19:5-6 Exodus 19:6 ~ynIßh]Ko tk,l,îm.m; (mamlechet cohanim) – a reign of priests

9 Israel Was to be Ruled By Priests
It was Elohim’s intention that Israel be ruled by priests, anointed servants of Yahuwah Why? Kings can make big demands on the people, whereas, priests have a prescribed inheritance Theocracy v. Monarchy

10 Laws in Operation Pre-Sinai
Appointed times Sacrifice and offering Laws about murder, adultery Distinction between clean and unclean Laws, right-rulings, Torot An order of Priesthood Tithing

11 Clean and Unclean Yahuwah then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Genesis 7:1-3

12 Pre-Sinai Priests Noah – built an alter and offered sacrifices Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – built alters and offered up burnt offerings Potiphera, priest of On (Egypt) Yitro – Moses father in law – priest of Midian

13 Altar Then Noah built an altar to Yahuwah and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. Genesis 8:20

14 David’s Master is King Of David. A psalm. Yahuwah says to my master: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.“ Yahuwah will extend your mighty scepter from Zion; you will rule in the midst of your enemies. Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy majesty, from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth. Psalm 110:1-3

15 David’s Master is King and Priest
Yahuwah has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." Yahuwah is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath. He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth. He will drink from a brook beside the way; therefore he will lift up his head. Psalm 110:4-7

16 Melchizedek An order of priesthood hr'b.Di (div-rah) – cause, reason, manner (order) Superior to the Aharonic priesthood – Why? It preceded Aharon It is still in operation Levi paid the tithe through Avram to Melchizedek Only one sacrifice was required

17 How Great Was Melchizedek?
Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Avraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people-- that is, their brothers-- even though their brothers are descended from Avraham. This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Avraham and blessed him who had the promises. Hebrews 7:4-6

18 How Great Was Melchizedek?
And without doubt the lesser person is blessed by the greater. In the one case, the tenth is collected by men who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living. One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Avraham, because when Melchizedek met Avraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor. Hebrews 7:7-10

19 Tithing Was First Done to Melchizedek?
A Torah based system of tithing could be to Levi and the Priests or to Melchizedek The temple service and Levitical system is no longer in operation Therefore, tithing is done to Melchizedek – this is also what Torah teaches!

20 The Superiority of Melchizedek
If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come-- one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aharon? For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. Hebrews 7:11-13

21 The Superiority of Melchizedek
For it is clear that our Master descended from Yehudah, and in regard to that tribe Mosheh said nothing about priests. And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. Hebrews 7:14-16

22 A Priest Forever For it is declared: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to Elohim. Hebrews 7:17-19

23 Set Aside avqe, thsij (athetaysis) - annulment, setting aside as being no longer in force (HE 7.18); (2) of Christ's dealing with sin removal, putting away, doing away with Then Messiah would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Messiah was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:26-28

24 The Curtain Torn And when Yahusha had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. Matthew 27:50-51

25 With an Oath And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, but he became a priest with an oath when Elohim said to him: "Yahuwah has sworn and will not change his mind: 'You are a priest forever.'" Because of this oath, Yahusha has become the guarantee of a better covenant. Hebrews 7:20-22

26 A Permanent Priesthood
Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Yahusha lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to Elohim through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Hebrews 7:23-25

27 A Better Priesthood Such a high priest meets our need-- one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever. Hebrews 7:26-28

28 My Take-Aways The order of Melchizedek precedes and supersedes the Aharonic order We are under the Melchizedek priesthood, not the Levitical system Yahusha is the King and Priest we serve Our gifts, offerings, tithes, etc are to go to the ministry of Yahusha and the Kingdom of which He is the Head

29 Next Sabbath The Levitical order and Aharonic priesthood What can we learn about the priesthood of Yahusha and how to serve him through the Levitical system?
