Microscope slides are made of glass! They can and will break if not treated carefully.
Microscopes are very expensive. The typical microscope you are working with costs at least $500. They can and will break if not treated carefully. You break it, you pay for it!

When using a high power lens, ONLY use the fine adjustment knob. Remember, slides are glass. The objective lens can break the slide by pushing on it.
