5 Power BI – Overview Connect to over 150 data sources
Share Explore Transform Report Connect Connect to over 150 data sources Transform and shape data Explore and analyze your data Prepare stunning visualizations Share business intelligence

6 Power BI – Functional Components
Share Explore Transform Report Connect Power Query DAX is the metrics, measures, and analysis engine of Power BI Desktop DAX functions enable a wide variety of useful calculationsfor financial reporting and visuals DAX is Excel-like, but has many extensions for accomplishing greater filtering and analysis functions. Data Modeling Visualizations Data Analysis Expresssions (DAX) Create logical connections between different data sources Manage relationships between Power BI data model Enables Power BI to know how those tables relate to one another, allowing you to create interesting visuals and reports Power Query is used to discover, connect, combine, and refine data from a wide variety of data sources Power Query is a self-service extract, transform, and load tool in Power BI and Excel Power Query functionality is accessible through the user ribbon. Visualizations display insights that can be discovered in the data Cross-filtering can expose hidden relationships between data dimensions Create your own visuals via the custom visuals SDK

11 Power BI – Share Share Explore Report Connect Save Power BI Desktop report files and easily publish them to Power BI Service Save Power BI Desktop reports on-prem by publishing and sharing with SQL Server Report Server Share Paginated Reports in the Power BI Service Embed interactive Power BI reports in SharePoint Online pages Print to PDF Transform

12 Demo Share Explore Transform Report Connect

13 Demo Share Explore Report Connect Combine CSV natural gas price files into a single data source; load into the data model. Connect to an Excel spreadsheet; combine the monthly worksheet tabs into one table. Transform the monthly transportation expense table and load into the data model. Connect to a SQL database and import data with a SQL query Merge the SQL query with the natural gas price table. Create a combined bar chart / line chart. Voilà! Transform
