Types of landforms Mountains, valleys, plateaus, caves, plains, coastal , and peninsulas are all landforms of earth.

Plateaus If you travel to the middle part of Maryland , you will find many plateaus. A plateaus is land with steep hills and valleys. Although Maryland has many valleys ,there are no canyons. Baltimore county lies in both the Atlantic coastal plain and the piedmont plateau.

Caves Caves can be found as you travel west in Maryland. A cave is a large hole in the ground or in the side of a mountain. Caves are very dark inside because there is no sunlight.

Coastal plains A coastal plain is a plain that borders an ocean. In the eastern part at of Maryland , the coastal border the Atlantic ocean. This area is called the Atlantic coastal plain. All the plains in Maryland are coastal plains because they are along water. Although sand is found in some areas, Maryland does not have deserts.

Peninsulas Part of Maryland is on the Delmarva peninsula. A peninsula is land surrounded by water on three sides. The Delmarva peninsula is made of mostly plains and some hills. Delaware Maryland and Virginia make the Delmarva peninsula.

VALLEYS Valleys are low regions between hills and mountains. They are also called glens or hollows. Many valleys have rivers that run though them. The land in a valley is good for farming. More people live in the valley than on the mountain.

Mountains In western Maryland , you can also see many mountains including the blue ridge mountains and the Appalachian mountains. Many people enjoy visiting the mountains to hike ,camp ,and ski. Some people even look for unexplored caves to search!
