3 Han The Han dynasty takes over in 206 BC after overthrowing the previous Qin dynasty, lasting until 220 CE. The Qin were very abusive to Chinese peasants making the reign of the Han a welcome one early on. The influence of Confucianism in Han society was important to strengthen the bond between peasants and the new rulers.

4 Han Achievements Compass- two forms helpful for merchants to travel long distances Seismograph-  Expand Great Wall toward western border further protecting Chinese. Increase trading along Silk Road Minted Coins

6 End of Han Despite many years of quality rule as the Han became corrupt with high taxes  and the army grew weak they were ripe for defeat. Defeat would come at the hands of the Xiongnu invaders Sound familiar?

7 Tang Dynasty Reign CE Further many inventions created by the Han Spread Chinese culture to Japan and Korea Sea trade is greatly expanded with Egypt and Axum Tea, Salt, and Alcohol were government monopolies

9 Tang Art Three color ware was one of the greatest contributors in early Chinese art Many figurines were created as well mainly of horses and camels Great poets- Li Bo and Du Fu

11 Tang Dynasty Invention of gunpowder, ceramic porcelain, and woodblock printing Advancements in literature- Thousands of poems written during this period of time Medicinal advancements- smallpox vaccine, treatment for goiters, tests for diabetes Tang empire will fall following a period of weak leadership in 907 CE
