Activities Shape Sorting Identify & Describe the Missing Shape I Have. Who Has? TEKS K.8.C & K.9C

K.8C Sort a variety of objects including two- dimensional geometric figures according to their attributes and describe how the objects are sorted.

Sorting Shapes

Materials : Shape Sorting Sheet Cut out shapes to include circles , triangles, squares, and rectangles. A variety of shape forms are provided in following slides. Task Card

Task Card Students sort by shape and not by color. Children glued these onto a sorting sheet.

Identify and Describe the Missing Shape

Materials: Shape attribute blocks Tray Cloth or sheet of paper to cover shapes. Task Card

Describe and Identify the Missing Shape
Task Card Describe and Identify the Missing Shape Put three shapes on a tray, have one student cover them with a cloth, and take one away. Uncover it and children guess which shape is missing. Another way to play is to have the children show what they saw using their own set of attribute block shapes or draw what they saw.

I Have. Who Has?

Materials: Game Cards Provided in slides below. Print game cards in color on cardstock and cut out for students. Basket to collect cards Task card

Task Card I Have. Who Has? To play the game, deal out all of the cards to all of the players in the group. Up to four students can be in the group. The first player chooses any card and reads it. For example, “I have a red square. Who has a green triangle?” That child places that card in the basket, and everyone looks at their cards to see if they have a green triangle. The person who does then says, “I have a green triangle. Who has a yellow rectangle?” That child places that card in the basket, and so on. Play continues until all of the cards are in the basket.
