6. Early Childhood Development
Early Childhood Development (ECD) refers to the physical, cognitive, linguistic, and socio-emotional development of a child from the prenatal stage up to age eight. This development happens in a variety of settings (homes, schools, health facilities, community-based centers); and involves a wide range of activities from child care to nutrition to parent education.

8. Activities 2017-August, 2018
Implemented developmental screening in 17 health centres of GBC.
Trained 83 Lady Health Visitors in early childhood development and developmental Screening and improving referrals.
Conduct parental awareness sessions on health and nutrition.

10. Gaps in Existing Program
Lack of awareness on the importance of ECD.
Neglect of holistic attention to 0-3 year olds.
Inadequate and well-trained human resources.
Inadequate engagement of MNCH services with children’s overall development.
Social norms regarding household division of labor prevent fathers from being involved in Caregiving.
Break in service due to long distance.
Unfavourable environment.

11. Future Plans
Strengthening & scale up of existing ECD programmes to ensure and support access to quality ECD care.
Improved developmental outcome of children 0-5 years  .
Improve and build technical capacity of health care providers  (LHVs/RMs) in delivering key services to targeted group population.
Increase the availability of material resources and also improve the existing infrastructure.
