Rotary Club and the Alzheimer’s Association

About the Alzheimer’s Association
Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Our vision is a world without Alzheimer’s disease.

Prevalence There are 560,000 Floridians living with Alzheimer’s who are 65 & older. By 2025 that number is expected to reach 720,000. One in 10 people age 65 and older (10 percent) has Alzheimer's dementia. Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women. Older African-Americans are about twice as likely to have Alzheimer's or other dementias as older whites. Hispanics are about one and one-half times as likely to have Alzheimer's or other dementias as older whites.

Care and Support The Association provides and enhances care and support for those facing Alzheimer’s disease by offering resources including: Our free 24/7 Helpline ( ), receiving nearly 300,000 calls annually. You can request to have a 1:1 Care Consultation with a local staff member. ALZConnected® (alzconnected.org), a free community that connects people with the disease, caregivers and family members with others facing the disease. Nearly 400,000 people find support and answers to their questions through this online community. Our face-to-face support groups and educational sessions held in communities nationwide (alz.org/CRF).

Awareness & Education To inform the people affected by Alzheimer’s today and those who will be tomorrow, the Association: Provides educational programs and workshops about the basics and 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Implements far-reaching campaigns to promote the power of early detection. Hosts alz.org®, a vast repository of information, which receives over 2 million visits each month.

Research The Association is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research, and is the nonprofit with the highest impact worldwide, behind only the Chinese and United States governments. Since 1982, the Alzheimer’s Association has invested over $410 million in nearly 2,700 scientific investigations. We bring global research leaders together to achieve landmark accomplishments, such as new diagnostic criteria. We meet areas of need by supporting cutting-edge projects that investigate methods of prevention and treatment.

Advocacy The Association is the leading voice in Alzheimer’s policy, advocating at the global, federal and state level. We helped pass landmark legislation, such as the National Alzheimer’s Project Act, which mandated a national plan to fight Alzheimer’s disease. We ensure federal policy and our research agenda reflect the urgency of the Alzheimer’s epidemic as a public health crisis. Hundreds of thousands of Association advocates led the way to the passage of a historic $414 million increase for Alzheimer’s research funding. By passing the Building Our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act, Congress has authorized $100 million over five years to build and enhance the U.S.'s public health response to the Alzheimer's crisis.

The Longest Day! On or around June 21 — the summer solstice — people across the world will participate in a fundraising activity on The Longest Day. Together, people use their creativity and passion to help us fight Alzheimer’s. Anything from a bake sale to bowling or card games to a cook-out.

Together, we can end Alzheimer’s.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s
The world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. More than 500,000 people of all ages and abilities participate annually in over 600 communities nationwide.
