1 ROLE OF LNG IN AN OPTIMIZED HYBRID ENERGY NETWORK
PART I. Increased operational flexibility for the future energy system by integration of decentralized LNG regasification with a CHP Future energy system needs operational flexibility to support intermittent renewable energy sources. HEN, integration of the independent infrastructures with high exergy efficiency possible increase of operational flexibility. Increase applications of integrated energy systems with LNG, which has a high exergy value due to the low temperature Could the integration of decentralized LNG regasification with a CHP offer additional operational flexibility for the future energy network with increased intermittent renewable energy sources, under exergy efficient conditions? System Integration Scenarios Energy Hub concept Minimal Imbalance optimization Figure 1. Figure 2. Figure 3. Figure 4. Effect of the heat demand over the Imbalance (IMB) of each coupling scenario (SC1-5)  Figure 5. Effect of the heat demand over the exergy Efficiency (EXG) of each coupling scenario (SC1-5)  Figure 4. Figure 5. An independent system can guarantee high operational flexibility, meeting both electricity and Heat demand, but with low exergy efficiency. An integrated system such CHP, offers high exergy efficiency, but the operation flexibility is compromised, only one commodity can be met. The integrated system with LNG offers and increase of exergy efficiency and additional operational flexibility, depending on its availability to produce additional energy carriers and on the means of integration.
