To Sala Sala Historical small town, known for its silver mine, dates back to the medieval age and worked until In 1624, the city of Sala was moved to the present location near the mine, receiving its royal charter from King Gustav Adolf. Silver was important for Sweden's economy and the basis for coin production. 400 tons of silver and 40,000 tons of lead were extracted; about 3-5 tons of silver over a year. The mine eventually reached a depth of 300 meters and a total length of 20 kilometers. Today is a tourist attraction. Almost 13,000 inhabitants live in Sala. The town has a small centre with old wooden houses. The artificial lakes you see in Sala remind us about the mine that requires plenty of water. We have a lot of white bridges in Sala. Sometimes it is called the "City of White Bridges

The school, the meeting with the partners

Åkraskolan One of the four schools in Sala, with pupils aged 6 to 13 has about 300 students. Students from Åkraskolan come from both families living around the school and commuters from country side . In the neighbourhood there are many families coming from other countries. More than 75% of pupils have a mother tongue other than Swedish. There are about 20 different nationalities in Åkraskolan. School is proud of this and thinks it's a great advantage they have! In March 2018, the school had to be evacuated due to deterioration in moisture. Politicians made a quick decision, and the compromise solution was a school of modules! In August, everything was ready for the opening of the school. The new school offers top conditions to its students.

The 1st day-the school visit and activity in Elkpark

The school visit Teachers were received by the school principal and teachers. Students teams accompanied the foreign teachers by giving them explanations in English as they visited the school

Elkpark All foreign teachers accompanied by Åkraskolan school teachers went to the bison reserve. Here they got explanations about the behaviour of these animals, they were in direct contact with the Swedish nature. This activity was necessary to present the Romanian pupils the image and the living environment of the reindeers and provide them with descriptions of the Swedish ecosystems.

The 2nd day, activity at Aguéli museum and at Sätra Brunn

Aguéli Museum The city hosts a collection of paintings of the painter Ivan Aguéli, born on May 24th, 1869 in Sala. Aguéli, with his innovative painting, became one of the most important figures of Swedish art. Only through balanced colour tones he developed a sense of distance and light in his paintings, which, despite his intimate format, has a great monumentality. Some activities were organized that we have to organize also with our pupils in our schools: energizing activity, collective painting, relational exercise - a portrait made in teams of two partners, respecting the rules. Meeting with book illustrator Johanna Byström

Sätra Brunn Sätra Brunn. In year 1700 medicus Samuel Skragge found a source of mineral rich water. He started a spa, one of the oldest health resorts in Sweden. We had the opportunity to discover the beauty of Swedish nature again, and we will look at the aspects of the school students we came from. The activity covered also the visit of a kindergarten and the relationship with the teachers here. We had the opportunity to see how young children discover the world through outdoor activities.

The 3rd day, activity in school, on eTwinning and at National Museum in Stockholm

Activity on eTwinning The participating teachers have learned about the opportunities offered by the platform. Project Coordinator Helena Larsson coordinated this work with the goal of disseminating the activities as proposed in the project.
