2 the cross and his Resurrection
One of the key parts of understanding our identity in Christ and our blessings through Christ is in our connection to his death on the cross and his Resurrection from the grave.

3 By sharing in Jesus’ death, we die to the claims of sin & death upon our life.
Although we will still (likely) die an earthly death and still occasionally sin; the eternal penalty for sin was paid for by Jesus Christ on the Cross.

4 rise to eternal life in Heaven with Him.
Likewise, by sharing in Jesus’ resurrection we also know that one day we will rise to eternal life in Heaven with Him. We are called to be heavenly-minded as we’re being of Earthly good while faithfully awaiting His return to the Earth.

5 It is very difficult in the midst of so many pressing difficulties
in this life to keep our minds on “things above,” but doing so helps to keep us from losing heart & getting stressed out “down below.”

6 The phrase “hidden in Christ” means that our security (for salvation) and our satisfaction are wrapped up in Jesus. To know and accept this can bring great joy to our lives!

7 In Colossians 3: 5-9, the Apostle Paul
gives a list of some sins that sadly can still exist in the lives of Christians. Paul’s advice isn’t to “work on” these issues, or pray about these problems, but to kill them, ridding them from their lives.

8 In Colossians 3:5, Paul gives a list of some “sensual sins”:
sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed (covetousness). Then Paul says that it God’s wrath is coming because of these sinful acts. This fact should be sobering for us.

9 same by Paul and by God, Himself. *** anger, rage, malice, slander,
In Colossians 3: 8-9, Paul lists what can be called some more “acceptable/social sins” that aren’t usually looked at as severely as the previous list…but are viewed the same by Paul and by God, Himself. *** anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language, lying

10 “Do you mortify? Do you make it your daily work? Be always at it
while you live; cease not a day from this work.  Be killing sin or it will be killing you.” - John Owen

11 Colossians 3: 9-10 9 “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

12 Ephesians 4: 22-24 22 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;  23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on  the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

13 Colossians 3:11 “Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.” No matter our past, our identity now is that of a Christian and a child of God!

14 John 11: 43-44 Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
