Good Morning Hugger A 5th Grade Morning Announcement/Media Authentic Assessment Project

2 Who: 5th grade classes will rotate
Who: 5th grade classes will rotate. What: Will write and perform a live broadcast to be shown to the entire building on their day. Where: The media center will be the broadcast and practice location. When: Live broadcasts will be Tuesday mornings from 8:23-8:30. Practice time will take place on Mondays. Why: To improve writing for a purpose skills, to be authentically assessed in writing, speaking, and listening skills, and to provide our building with an update on school happenings.

3 Roles: Director (*off camera)- student leader during the production and practice. Makes some decisions for the broadcast (all wearing class t-shirt, etc..). Everyone looks to this person to know what's next, also does the countdown at the beginning of the show. Camera Operator (*off camera)- does the zooming in or out and panning during the broadcast. Anchors (2)- start the newscast, introduce themselves, say the date and a fun fact for the day. Introduce additional guests or announce special events that are requested and finish the broadcast with a joke. Pledge (2)- say the pledge and also choose and explain the quote of the day. Sports and Weather (2)- research and report on sports and weather information on a local or national level. Hugger Curriculum Connection (2)- report on classroom happenings, learning in the building and interview P.A.W.S. Pride guests. Grip- fills in for an individual that is absent on a broadcast day. Must be willing to do all roles.
