4 Objective: Helping Babies Breathe Initiative
Purpose: The purpose of this project was to implement a modified HBB lesson to increase midwives’ competence with neonatal resuscitation Goal: To teach usable skills to potentially decrease infant mortality at a hospital in Ghana

5 Helping Babies Breathe
Helping Babies Breathe is an evidence-based educational program designed for low-resource areas Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Birth attendants are taught how to assess and treat newborns in the first moments after birth Step-by-step algorithm, demonstration, and hands-on practice with NeoNatalie Simulator

St. Paul’s Hospital for the Handicapped, Akatsi Ghana

7 Methodology Two two-hour education sessions Four midwives
Started with pre-tests about a healthy birth and a birth needing more resuscitative efforts. Concluded with post-tests and feedback on missed skills
