2 The Sum of Cross Products
ΣXY Formed by multiplying each X value for a particular set of measures with its Y value, and then summing the products (adding them all together)

3 Simple Regression The predictive relationship where there is only one independent variable and one dependent variable A linear relationship between two variables refers to a tendency across the group (sample) for rate of change in one variable to fit a straight line relationship with the other variable

4 Regression Line Correlation describes the relationship and the regression describes the actual line

5 Regression Line The regression line, any straight line, can be described by two pieces of information: The rate of change (slope, b): indicates the amount of change in the IV for every unit of change in the DV The Y intercept (a): indicates where on the graph the line would cross the Y (vertical) axis

6 Regression Line A regression line has an equation of the form Y = a + bX, where X is the explanatory variable and Y is the dependent variable. The slope of the line is b, and a is the intercept (the value of y when x = 0).

7 Latent Variable A mathematical variable that is calculated from a set of measured variables
