1 Fluctuating Magnetic Moments in Liquid Metals?
Wouter Montfrooij, Department of Physics, University of Missouri-Columbia 65211 However, origin of excess signal in Ga is multiple scattering (artifact) after all. Hg Pb Ga experiments designed to change ratio of single/multiple scattering Neutron scattering shows an additional cross section for liquid metals, the origin of which is/was unclear Could be magnetic, coherent, or experimental artifact Data shown are literature data which had been fully corrected, free of artifacts Multiple scattering contribution to the signal is in blue. Notice that the observed scattering is very well reproduced by a combination of single, multiple, and empty cell Origin in Hg is likely to be magnetic since the SAME procedures that identified excess Ga scattering as artifact did not remove excess scattering in Hg Ga M.
