Presentation on theme: "What kinds of graphs would be useful in calculating work and energy?"— Presentation transcript:

1 What kinds of graphs would be useful in calculating work and energy?

2 What do these things have in common?

3 They all utilize springs!
But how do you represent the force and energy of a spring? That’s what you’re going to find out!

4 Questions you’ll answer in this lab:
Is the force that a spring applies constant? If so, what is the force for a given spring? If not, how does the force change? Is there energy associated with a spring? In other words, can a spring do work? If so, how can you calculate the work done by a spring?

5 Now for something you always wanted to do…
Can you launch a spring vertically in the air in such a way that you can consistently reach the same maximum height? SAFETY: Protect your eyes. Don’t shoot at anyone!!! Use what you have found in the beginning of the lab and what you know about work and energy to predict max height given certain parameters that you set. Do error analysis on your prediction.
