2 Luke 9:46 (NIV) An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.

3 1. Love suffers when I use my means to measure God’s love for me.

4 Luke 9:47-48 (NIV) Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him.  Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”

5 1. Love suffers when I use my means to measure God’s love for me.
2. Every person who works with kids knows that whoever picks them up needs to be safe and loving.

6 Luke 9:49 (NIV) “Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”

7 2. Every person who works with kids knows that whoever picks them up needs to be safe and loving.
3. Love suffers when my pride becomes an obstacle on the path.

8 Luke 9:50-51 (NIV) “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.” As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

9 Luke 9:52-53 (NIV) And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him, but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.

10 3. Love suffers when my pride becomes an obstacle on the path.
4. The most dangerous kind of religion is cloaked in the veil of self-righteousness.

11 Luke 9:54 (NIV) When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”

12 4. The most dangerous kind of religion is cloaked in the veil of self-righteousness.
5. People who don’t understand Jesus aren’t the enemy. They are the victims of the enemy.

13 Luke 9:55-56 (NIV) But Jesus turned and rebuked them.  Then he and his disciples went to another village.

15 1 John 3:1a (NIV) See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

16 6. The great demonic act of the self-righteous is to withhold love.
7. What God has poured out on me is fixed in my past.

17 1 John 3:1b-2a (NIV) And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God,

18 7. What God has poured out on me is fixed in my past.
8. My love from Him is a present love that I am to give freely.

19 1 John 3:2b (NIV) …and what we will be has not yet been made known.

20 8. My love from Him is a present love that I am to give freely.
9. Between now and not yet, I get to live in a little bit of heaven, so when I get to heaven I don’t die of culture shock.

21 1 John 3:2c-3 (NIV) But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

22 9. Between now and not yet, I get to live in a little bit of heaven, so when I get to heaven I don’t die of culture shock. 10. I am not really a child of God.
