3 What is a Short Story????? A brief tale written to entertain you
Since the story is short the author has to fit in as much action as possible A short story writer tries to pull you in quickly (gets your attention FAST!!!) Many legends, folklore, and tall tales, are written as short stories

4 Elements of a Short a Shorty
Characters: They are believable, interesting characters that you want to care about. (be alert of how the main character grows/changes throughout the story) Setting: time and place in which the story takes place Conflict: challenges, or struggle are the basis of every short story. Characters may struggle with people animals, nature, or themselves

5 Elements of a Short Story Cont’
Point of View: Ever story is told from a point of view. Eugene told Biloxi Blues from his “Point of View” Plot: Chain or sequence of events in a story. i) Characters introduced ii) conflict iii) climax (turning point in the story) iv) resolution (ending)

6 Elements of Short Story
Suspense: is what makes you worry about the characters (example: a characters life is in danger) Theme: the main idea of the story. It is what the story has to say about life (Halloween Party: Do not trust Vampires)
