2. INTRODUCTION In November, 2000 planning permission was given for an onshore terminal at Bellanaboy. The Corrib gas project is the planned extraction of a natural gas deposit off Erris Head in Co. Mayo The field is located about 80 km off, in water depths of 355 metres The project has attracted considerable opposition.

3. ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE PROJECT The location of the pipeline is a concern. Marine ecology could be in danger. It will increase noise and pollution. Shell pays very little taxes. Shell can not be trusted

4. ARGUMENTS FOR THE PROJECT Employment will rise in the area. It will provide energy for homes and businesses. 60% of Irelands gas needs could be provided for the next 20 years.

5. Our Opinion There are more disadvantages then advantages. The pipe could explode due to movement of bogland Highest gas pressure pipelines in Europe – THIS IS DANGEROUS! Shell have laid 3km of pipeline without permission – THEY CAN NOT BE TRUSTED!!! `
