1 Tiptoeing Through the Tulips to Protect Power Plants
The goal is to ensure the tulip design for their earthing switches in generator circuit breakers can withstand the full short circuit fault current, more than 500 kA, according to IEC standards. Used Maxwell’s stress tensor to calculate: total electromagnetic force on the tulip configuration, maximum current value. Simulation results confirmed experimentally. Multiphysics Simulation 2018: Francesco Agostini, Alberto Zanetti, Jean-Claude Mauroux, ABB, Switzerland. Log of the current density distribution of a tulip finger contact configuration.
