2 Joseph Mallord William Turner was born on the 23rd of May, 1775.

3 Turner’s first drawings are dated 1787 when he was only twelve.

4 Water mill William Turner received almost no general education but at 14 he became a student at the Royal Academy of Arts. In 1791 Turner exhibited two watercolours at it for the first time.

5 Calais Pier In 1802 Turner went to the Continent where he painted his famous Calais Pier.

6 William Turner often travelled in England and abroad using every opportunity to make sketchers for his studio paintings in oil and water.

7 In 1807 Joseph Mallord William Turner became Professor of the Royal Academy of Arts.

8 Joseph Mallord William Turner was famous for visionary interpretations of landscape, making experiments with light and colour.

9 Turner’s distinctive style of painting, in which he used watercolour technique with oil paints, created lightness, fluency, and ephemeral atmospheric effects.

10 Suitable vehicles for Turner's imagination were found in shipwrecks, fires, natural catastrophes and natural phenomena such as sunlight, storm, rain, and fog. He was fascinated by the violent power of the sea.

Turner died on the 19th of December, He is said to have uttered the last words "The Sun is God". At his request he was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral.
