7 Writing about Movement and Characterisation
Jot down some statements which explain how you used movement today to convey your character. Some examples have been provided for you. Use the vocabulary on pages 2 & 3 to help you. Today I played a character who was really scared so I used a terrified facial expression. When I was leading the group across the desert I had an upright posture. I really focused on slowing my movement down so that the audience had time to work out where our journey took place. I used over the top arm movements to show them I was swimming through stormy waters.

8 Harry Potter Starter Activity
It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the Harry Potter books or films. Write down three words that you think of when you see the images. Character 1: Character 2: Character 3: Character 4: Character 5: In ‘Harry Potter’ we meet a group of teenagers who attend Hogwarts Academy. To ensure the reader could tell the difference between all of them, J.K. Rowling created very distinct characteristics for each. 8

17 Where do you stand to start? Where do you move to?
Make notes below about the types of movement you will use during the music. Where do you stand to start? Where do you move to? Who do you interact with? When? What movements am I making? When do I make them? Am I moving at a fast or slow pace? What timing is important to remember? 17

18 Writing about Movement and Characterisation
Jot down some statements which explain how you used movement today in your dance drama. Some examples have been provided for you. Our group really focused on using levels to convey status. The leader was always on his feet whilst his minions were on their knees. Our positioning was really important. We had to rehearse many times to ensure we all knew where we were to be and when. This was because the pace and rhythm was very fast and if we didn’t rehearse properly then we may have bumped into each other.

19 How will I know I am successful?

25 Class Assessment In the following lesson you will be given a short assessment. Section A will test you knowledge and understanding and section B will test your creativity and imagination. This lesson we are going to spend some time preparing for your assessment. Section A For this section you should make sure you know and understand all of the new vocabulary you have been given. This means you should look over your introductory vocabulary, characterisation and movement notes. It may be helpful to create flashcards or mind maps to help you memorise these new words and their meanings. Section B In Section B you will be given a stimulus and asked a series of questions about your ideas for drama based on that stimulus. You should aim to be as creative as possible. On the following page you will see and example of this. You should attempt this either in class or at home. You can write your answers down on the lined page. 25

26 Look at the photograph and quotation below. Then answer the questions.

Beginning – Middle – End – Look at the photograph and quotation below. Then answer the questions. ‘Sometimes I think he works too hard. He doesn’t play around anymore like he used to. He used to come home and fool around with us kids and watch TV with us, and stuff. He used to be friendly and nice then.‘ What is the relationship between the man in the photo and the person saying the quotation?
