1 2019 READ Data Collection

2 Reminder: Data Privacy
Don’t share student info via READ collection must be submitted via FileZilla

3 Purpose Fulfills legislation
Determines distribution of READ funds (SRD student count) Aggregate data is publicly available So….be accurate!

4 Timeline Now: Cohort files and previous year files available in FileZilla (Submissions>READ>READ 2019) April-May: All K-3 students assessed using state-approved READ interim May 18: First draft READ collection due May 18-May 31: Address errors in collection

5 New this year Nothing has changed in the collection or funding
CDE has released a new report- 1st-3rd grade students identified as SRD or as having a READ plan in the previous year (in FileZilla) Both the 1st-3rd grade file and the 4-9th cohort file will be uploaded to FileZilla

6 READ 4-9th Cohort Separate file- students who left 3rd grade with a READ plan and have not been indicated as exiting their plan in prior year(s). Only ONE field to update Do not copy paste into main READ Collection file

7 Update this field with a 0 or 1 ONLY

8 READ Cohort When does a student exit the cohort?
Once a student has reached reading competency (determined locally) they are removed from their READ plan and will be coded as READ plan = 0 (No) which will remove them from the cohort group Do not add students into the cohort. ONLY the READ plan field is updated

16 Budget Planning Survey
Required of ALL schools receiving READ funds Implications for policy decisions Do not submit READ file without completing READ budget survey Link:

17 Common Issues Losing Leading Zeros
Opening a file in excel and format is not already set to ‘text’ Files will not upload properly and will create errors CDE has a guide to keeping leading zeros here

18 Common Issues A student in my district was unable to be tested due to excessive absences, but the child was enrolled during the period for testing and has a READ Plan in place READ Plan = 1 READ Status = 0 READ Test = 06 READ Score = 9999 READ Testing Date = Recommended Retention = 2 Retained = 2 READ Plan Support = Indicate the supports the student received

19 Common Issues An English Language Learner in our district wasn’t tested because he is Non-English Proficient (NEP) and in his first year in a US school. READ Plan = 2 READ Status = 0 READ Test = 04 READ Score = 9999 READ Testing Date = Recommended Retention = 2 Retained = 2 READ Plan Support = 0 for each

20 Common Issues A 1st grade student in our district was placed on a READ plan earlier this year. The Spring DIBELS score is above the cut score so she is no longer identified as having a significant reading deficiency. However, the body of evidence doesn’t demonstrate she is at grade level yet. We will keep her on a READ plan. READ Plan = 1 READ Status = 1 READ Test = 07 READ Score = 0812 READ Testing Date = Recommended Retention = 2 Retained = 2 READ Plan Support = 0 for each

21 Resources READ Collection resources can be found at: Data elements & definitions File layout Business Rules Additional resources such as FAQ document, assessment cut scores, etc.

22 Remember… READ file (K-3) and updated READ Cohort file (4-9) due in FileZilla on or before May 17th! READ Budget Survey must be completed on or before May 17th!
