Why, Where, What, and How Which is different than whether students are passing your required classes. Q: Why Learning Outcomes Assessment? A: Understanding whether students are achieving the goals that you have for your programs. And adjusting your programs if you find out that they aren’t.

A2: Our Accrediting Body Requires it [see accreditation.utah.edu for NWCCU Accreditation Letters] Fall 2012 NWCCU Accreditation Letter to University of Utah: Recommendation #1 “While some programs have an established track record of assessment of program learning outcomes…progress is needed to develop a comprehensive program of assessment across all disciplines.”

6 Accreditors are expecting 60% of our programs to complete an assessment cycle by 2022.
Fall 2018 Year 3 NWCCU Accreditation Review Feedback to the University of Utah To achieve this, the Grad School is letting programs know about 3- and 5-year assessment requirements in 7-year program review exit meetings. Office of Learning Outcomes Assessment is following up.
