The gold rush The red bits are gold. They are very far under the ground! From Peter

In 1851 the first gold rush started. The Gold rush changed Australia significantly.

It all started when Shayla Dum bridge found the gold but thought it was just a shiny rock till he figured out it was a gold nugget! He bragged so much that it reached other countries and spread amazingly far. Every one thought it was nothing just a try hard. But once other people in Australia saw it they were sure it was gold!

After Shayla found the gold he tried other fields to see whether there would be more and to his side of luck he found a small nugget! Every body started to flood into the fields to find gold camping out side working day and night with fire lights! The population before Shaylas finding was only four hundred thousand but when the gold rush got on a bit the population shot up to one million. In only four to five years! To put it in other terms if the population was seventy seven thousand before anything, the population would have shot up to five hundred and forty thousand in just two years! WOW!

Pictures.

Every part of Australia had gold in it apart from Western Australia. It was a strange mystery. Believe this or not Australia had one third of the WORLDS gold! From start till end the population grew from forty three thousand (In 1851) to one point seven million (In 1871) In 1851 three hundred thousand people came to Australia for gold just that year! In 1854 the first railway was made for all the gold miners because they had to go back and forth to the gold fields to get the gold.

In the 1930s the gold rush ended but five hundred thousand people stayed in Australia to live there for ever! All of that drama wow! But all of those people needed the gold so they risked listening to a man named Shayla saying he found gold just to improve and to save their own lives and their familys lives!

This gold rush helped improve Australia by our Population growth because of all the gold rushes happening. It also helped people in Australia to be wealthier and afford money and it helped the technology improve. I think that the history of the gold rush helped Australia be a better and more known country!
