1 Discovery 109-B Discovering God’s Angels Prepared by Dennis Henderson, D. Min.
INTRODUCTION: This study will have two parts: 1. Identification of Angles Satan & his demons Part Two: Satan & his demons 1. His Nature He is an angel (anointed cherub-- Ez 28:13-14) Therefore, He is created, finite, and subject to God. He is a person His Designations “Satan” = “adversary” (Job 1:6) The “devil” = “slanderer” (Mt 4:1) “Beelzebub” = “lord of flies” (Mt 12) “Lucifer” = “son of the morning” (Is 14:12) “Beliel” = “worthless” (2 Cor 6:15) “Apollyon” = “Destroyer” (Rev 12:9) The “dragon” (Rev 12:9) The “serpent” (Rev 12:9) The “tempter” (Gen 3; Mt 4:3) The “prince of this world” (Jn 12:31) The “father of lies” (Jn 8:44) 3. His Character Wicked (Jn 17:15) Murderous (Jn 8:44) Deceptive (Jn 8:44; Rev 12:9) Proud (1 Tim 3:6) Powerful (Job 1:12-19; 2 Thes 2:9 Obsessed with thwarting God (Isa 14:12-14)

2 Though originally an anointed guardian cherub who guarded the
His Creation Ez 28:12-19 ‘The ... LORD says: "'You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. 14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created 5. His Fall till wickedness was found in you. 16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. 17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; When did he fall? Time of it—The fall of angels took place between Genesis 1:31 (or 2:7) and Genesis 3. How did he fall? Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." His Work Though originally an anointed guardian cherub who guarded the holiness of God—after the fall his work is totally focused on opposing God (Zech 3:1)! All out war (Rev 12:17)! In History: Since fall of mankind and the promise of a redeemer (Gen 3:15), he has tried to thwart the coming Savior (Rev 12:1-5) Tried to keep Christ from the cross (Mat 4; 16:21-23; 26:36-39)

3 Blinds the minds of unbelievers(2 Cor 4:4)
In the Present Blinds the minds of unbelievers(2 Cor 4:4) Attacks Christians to make their lives ineffective (Eph 6:11-14). In the Future He will be evicted from heaven and be cast to the earth in the middle of Tribulation (Rev 12:7-10) He will empower the “Beast” (Rev 13:2) He will be cast into the Abyss (Rev 20:1-3) and finally into the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:7-10) His Defeat by Christ Satan tried unsuccessfully to gain the last Adam’s allegiance as he did the first Adam’s. But Jesus defeated him: When tempted (Mt 4:1-11) In public ministry (Mt 16:22-23) On the cross (Col 2:15; Heb 2:14) In His followers’ lives (Col 1:13) Making his end certain (Rev 20:10) His strategy Satan has a scheming strategy (2 Cor 2:11; Eph 6:11) that includes: Tempting (1 Thes 3:5; Mt 4) Assaulting (Eph 6:11) with: Losses (Job 4:7-8) Illness (2 Cor 12:7) Hindrances (1 Thes 2:18) Violence (Acts 7:57-58) Mental torment (1 Sam 16:14) Control (Acts 5:3) 9- Our Response Be on Alert (Eph 6:18) Resist (Jam 4:7; 1 Pet 5:8) Quote the Bible (Mat 4:1-11) Arm yourself (Eph 6:11-18) Pray (Eph 6:18; Mat 6:13)

4 Satan’s emissaries (Mat 12:24) Called “evil spirits” (Lk 11:20, 24)
10- His Demons are: Satan’s emissaries (Mat 12:24) Called “evil spirits” (Lk 11:20, 24) Grossly wicked (some more than others--Lk 11:24) Obsessed with occupying a body (Luke 8:36) Inflictors of extreme pain and wickedness Somehow they are behind false religious activities (Deut 32:10; 1 Cor 10:20) On a mission against humanity… Demon Activities: - Attack (Eph 6:12) - Arm Yourself (Eph 6:12) - Influence (James 3:15) - Heavenly Wisdom (Jam 3:13-18) - Possession (Luke 8:36) - Indwelling Spirit (1 Jn 4:4; 1 Cor 3:16; 6:19; 12:3) Re: Demon-Possession … There are a few prominent cases: 1- Syrophoenician woman (Mt 15:22) 2- Garasene demoniac (Mt 8:28) 3- Capernaum madman (Lk 4:33) 4- Blind & Dumb demoniac (Mt 12:22) 5- Woman of divination (Ac 16:16) Be Careful…WE are commanded to: “Test the spirits” with discernment 1 Jn 4:1 “do they deny incarnation” “Resist” them with Scripture (1 Peter 5:9 ; Mat 4:1-11) “Stand” against them in Armour and in the faith (Eph 6:11-18; 1 Pet 5:9) Warning: Be careful you do not attempt to do what even the angels won’t do … (take on a superior being) Jude 8-10 cf. 2 Pet 2:10-11 Jude 1:9 But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" 2 Pet 2:10-11 Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord. 12 But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand.

5 Conclusion--Therefore, do what Michael did: Call on GOD TO DO IT!
The Point If Michael, the archangel would not slander Satan, but only invoked the Lord to do so—we need to be very careful attempting to engage an evil spirit being of higher order than ourselves. Conclusion--Therefore, do what Michael did: Call on GOD TO DO IT! Don’t attempt to do it yourself! But always share the Gospel of the incarnation, crucifixion and resurrection with the human. Salvation will expel evil forces! 1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
