1
Discovering our Purpose What does God receive through the church?
2
God did not purpose and redeem the church to supply some need of His that goes unmet without us!
God is sufficient in Himself. The relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is perfect and does not need additional beings to make it so. Yet God did bring into being a group of people who belong to him, the church of Christ. Why?
3
God purposed and redeemed the church because of who He is.
He is a God of love and kindness (1:5) He is a God of grace and mercy (1:7; 2:5)
4
God purposed and redeemed the church because He wanted others to know and appreciate who He is.
He wanted to make known His manifold wisdom to rulers and authorities in the heavenly places (3:10). He wants us to lead others to glorify Him through “good works” (Mt. 5:16; Eph. 3:21).
5
God purposed and redeemed the church because He wanted to bring praise to Himself.
In worship, men do not supply something that God needs, but rather God supplies something that man needs! Praise is the natural response of our appreciation and enjoyment of God.
6
Fulfilling God’s purpose enables us to “glorify God”
Fulfilling God’s purpose enables us to “glorify God”. We are able to see from our own lives the blessing of His work in us and we are moved by it to praise Him for a wisdom far greater than our own, and to love Him for a love that we didn’t deserve.
