MANWEILER TELECOM CONSULTING, LLC The Good Old Days It used to be a whole lot easier. If I needed a telephone, I called the telephone company and they installed it. If it stopped working, I called them and they fixed it.

MANWEILER TELECOM CONSULTING, LLC In 1964 Long distance calls cost $.60 to $1.00 per minute. ($3.25 to 5.43 in todays dollars). Mobile telephone service was limited to 12 simultaneous calls in any city and for use in vehicles due to the weight of the equipment. Coded ringing and 8 party service was the norm for rural areas. Fax capacity did not exist. Data communications consisted of telegraph service. Most calls sounded like there really were tin cans and string involved. The very beginnings of the Internet was still 5 years away
