Other ways to connect to a computer to download could be using Wi-Fi. Many cameras nowadays have Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) built into the camera.
Images can be downloaded or the can be uploaded to the cloud, quite often nowadays directly from camera using Wi-Fi connection to the broadband router or network or even mobile devices containing a camera.
