2. FAFSA Application
All students should complete a FAFSA application on
Most scholarships require you to file a FAFSA so it is recommended you file it even if you believe you might not qualify for Federal Aid.
This will get you reviewed for not only Federal Aid but also State based aid such as the PHEAA grant for Pennsylvania residents.
This year the FAFSA became available on October 1st.
Temple’s deadline to complete the FAFSA is March 1st. Filing late can result in not qualifying for Temple funding.

3. FAFSA Changes for the 17-18 Year
Beginning with the 2017–18 FAFSA, students will be required to report income and tax information from an earlier tax year.
For example, on the 2017–18 FAFSA, you—and your parent(s), as appropriate—will report your 2015 income and tax information, rather than your 2016 income and tax information.
Temple will award you Financial Aid based on the income reported on your FAFSA application. If you file early you might qualify for limited Federal Aid such as SEOG Grant, Workstudy, or Temple Grant.

4. PHEAA STATE GRANT
For Pennsylvania Residents once you file you will be reviewed for the PHEAA State Grant. You submit your FAFSA application before May 1st.
Filing late will disqualify you automatically for this grant.
On your FAFSA confirmation page you will see a link to start your state application. Please make sure to click this and submit any necessary information.
Student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
Students cannot be taking more online classes than in class.

5. Federal Direct Loans
The chart illustrates Federal Loan limits that students can receive based on their Dependency Status and year in College.
Dependent students (under 24) who need additional loans can have their parents apply for a Federal Plus Loan.
If your parent is denied a Parent Plus loan based on their credit history you can receive additional unsubsidized loans in your name.

6. FEDERAL WORKSTUDY
On your FAFSA application you will be asked the question if you are interested in the Federal Workstudy Program.
This is a grant given to students which allows them to work on- campus at Temple or through a Temple approved off-campus non-profit employer.
The funding is paid to students through a payroll like a regular job would. This funding is not applied directly towards tuition and fees.

7. How to view if you have a work-study award
Log into your TU Portal
Go under Self Service Banner
Select Financial Aid
Go to Accept your Award Offer

8. How to accept your Work-study award.
In order to use work-study you must have it “Offered” to you on your Financial Aid Award.
If you do not see it but want to receive work-study you can stop by Student Financial Services to see if they have additional funding.
Students must “Accept” their award in their Self-Service Banner in order to use it.

9. Locating a Work-study position
On-Campus students can find a job by logging into their TU Portal. On the left hand side you will see a link for Here is where departments at Temple post for student positions.

When you select the link you will be able to view all current student worker positions.
Some departments require students to have Federal Workstudy. Others will hire students and pay them from their own department budget.

11. Creating a Profile
Once you have entered the Temple University Human Resource webpage you will see your name appear on the right hand corner of the screen
Click on the drop down box and it will give a set of options. Select Profile and here you can start on building your profile for the site. Some items are automatically transferred over such as your name and Temple .

12. Creating a Profile
Make sure you go through all the sections and update all necessary information. You do have the option to load your information from a LinkedIn account if you currently have one.
You also have the option to upload attachments such as a cover letter.
Keep in mind that you are competing with other students for these positions so make sure your resume is up to date and that you sell yourself via your profile.

13. Finding an Off-Campus Workstudy position
SFS does have contracts with a number of Off-Campus employers.
All Off-Campus positions are posted on the sfs.temple.edu website.

14. Finding an Off-Campus Workstudy position
Students interested in working for an approved employer can contact the employer directly. If interested they will schedule an interview with you for the position listed.
If you are selected for the position you must come directly to SFS and we will assist you with the hiring process since off-campus hiring is not done online like the on-campus positions.
SFS will notify you when you may begin working for the off- campus employer.

15. Locating other types of Aid

Most scholarships have deadlines in the beginning of the year for the upcoming Fall Now is the time to start looking for scholarship opportunities.

17. Scholarships for DACA- Deferred Action Students or Undocumented Students
Students who are DACA students or undocumented students do not qualify for Federal Aid.
There are organizations that can assist students in this situation.

18. Review your Aid!
Review your Financial Aid Award in your Self-Service Banner on TU portal for each semester to ensure you have sufficient funding.
Review your Spring 2017 bill to see what your total cost of attendance will be.

19. Check your TU Pay account!
Your bill is located on your TU Pay account located within TU Portal.
You will receive billing notifications from the Bursar’s office to your Temple . Please pay attention to these notices.
Failure to pay your bill in full by the March 15th deadline will result in a $100 late fee and a hold on your account which will block you from registering for the upcoming semester.
You can use the tuition calculator at and-fees/tuition-rates to estimate cost such as tuition & fees, Housing and meal plans.

20. Visit Student Financial Services
Visit SFS if you have questions about aid or if you don’t have enough funding to cover your costs.
An SFS Counselor can review different options of aid.
The most important thing is to not wait until the end of the semester. Waiting until the end can limit the options available for you.
