2 Page Layout Tab Contains commands that help to format the entire document Margins Orientation Columns Hyphenation Breaks

3 Orientation Refers to the two page layout positions of a document
Portrait: (default) taller than wide Landscape: wider than tall Page Layout > Orientation

4 Margins The amount of space around the edge of a document
Default margins: 1” top, bottom, left, and right Has several preset settings to choose from: Normal Narrow Moderate Wide Mirrored Office 2003 Default

5 Paper Size Allows the user to change the size of the paper that the document will be printed on Page Layout > Page Setup > Size Can change the size to several different options: Legal Statement Executive Etc.

6 Breaks Automatic Page Break: Word inserts another page when the previous page is full Manual Page Break – Inserts a page break at your cursor Page Layout > Page Setup Group > Breaks Control + Return/Enter Appears as a dotted line with the word Page Break when non-printing characters are displayed Column Break: inserts a break at the cursor that the text after the cursor flows into the next column Control + Shift + Enter

7 Breaks Text Wrapping: Separates the text around objects on a web page, such as caption text from body text

8 Section Breaks Section Break: used to create layout or formatting changes in a portion of a document Continuous Section Break: used to create a new section on the same page as the previous section Often used to balance columns by placing a continuous section break at the end of the columns Next Page Section Break: Inserts a section break and starts the new section on the next page Even Page: Inserts a section break and starts the new section on the next even-numbered page Odd Page Section Break: Inserts a section break and starts the new section on the next odd-numbered page

9 Hyphenation (nonbreaking space) Used when a part of a word appears at the end of a line and the second part of the word appears at the beginning of the beginning of the text line Used to separate syllables Join words Break single words into one word Default: set to None Manual hyphenation: automatically stops at a word and asks you to decide where to hyphenate Page Layout > Page Setup > Hyphenation

10 Controlling Pagination
Allows you to keep lines together on the same page Example: A paragraph together on the same page Page Layout > Paragraph > Paragraph Dialog Box > Line and Page Breaks Tab Keep with Next: Allows you to keep multiple paragraphs on one page without any page breaks

11 Line Numbers Places a number beside each line for reference purposes

12 Widow/Orphan control Widow/Orphan Control: Turned on by default
Widow – last line of a paragraph that appears at the top of the second page on a line by itself Orphan – first line of a paragraph that appears at the bottom of a page by itself Anytime a person presses the Enter key, Word considers it a paragraph Even if it is only a title or a heading

13 Columns Vertical blocks of text in which text flows from the bottom of one column to the top of the next column Places multiple columns in a document Default is 1 column Default spacing between multiple columns is 0.5” Page Layout > Columns
