EQUALITY
Do you know the team you work with? Do you really care about all of its members the same way, or do you have favorites and black sheep on it? Are you being fair in the way you treat your team or being held hostage of "necessary talent"? Have you ever stopped to think about these questions? Or do you think it does not matter? Sometimes this analysis is essential not to commit injustice and so not to lose underrated talent. There is a short story that represents this situation and makes us analyze it. Remember that ALL MEMBERS are important in a team, otherwise it will never be one. Do what has to be done for the company's best interest and not for some individuals.
There were they, all together, heart, lung, pancreas, stomach, spleen, kidneys, liver, penis, brain, etc. There was going to happen a meeting, in which would be voted and decided which of the most important organs would be elected the boss definitely!
THE HEART soon asks the word and appeals saying sweet words about the importance of love, compassion, feeling and therefore was considered the most fit and worthy to be the boss.
THE LIVER raised his hand and said, "for what will serve all of your affection if I do not permanently cleanse what you send forth for the rest of the body... I am more important in this sense, then I must be the boss.
The Kidneys tapped the Liver's shoulder and said to its ear: "if that's so ... do not forget that I am also responsible for purification".
The LUNGS had a laugh and said, "if I do not breathe... no good for purification, nor for any affection, all of you would be screwed... I must be the boss!"
The arms and legs began to gesticulate and kicking, shouting; "is there life if we do not take you and do what you deem Good or Bad in your lives? We are the instruments to achieve your desires. We must be the boss!"
And in that discussion, what everyone thought to be easy to earn the vote to be a boss, started to get heated up... and the debate atmosphere suddenly became a mess...
Until the BRAIN asked the word as calm, patient and serene as possible, and there was a deep silence, because everyone wanted to hear the "voice of reason". It spoke some words and was almost convincing everyone, arguing among other things that he was responsible for sending signals to each organ to do this or that. It was the coordinating center of all communication inside the human body.
Until someone else very humbly asked for the floor: it was the GUTS. When it asked for a moment, the meeting lost it, laughed and mocked it. The heart could not stop laughing; the lungs were breathless with laughter; the brain shook his head disbelieving the request. The arms and legs were jumping, shaking; the mouth screaming with laughter, until everyone realized that the GUTS were leaving and urged it to come back. "We know that you made a joke... no one wants to hurt you, but we'll talk and vote seriously".
The GUTS replied: "not at all! I was serious and I am now on a STRIKE. Have a good day! Everyone laughed, they said "never mind, go on. You'll be back. We unanimously decide to elect the brain. Cheers!"
Then, there was the first day, then the second, and the third, and the butt would remain on a strike, and everybody commented about it ("this times it's going too far!"). Until the Brain said: "look here guys I'm a little confused .I do not know what's going on". HEART took the cue and said; "you know I'm, too, a little weird with frequent heartbeat raises. A week went by, legs and arms were trembling and asked the BRAIN; "Please, Mr. Boss, tell the GUTS to stop the strike, we can not do anything right, can't stop shaking" The LUNGS breathlessly asked BRAIN for help, too.
KIDNEY and LIVER kept sending warnings to the BRAIN; "things here are getting ugly, boss. Take some action"
BRAIN talked to the HEART, and together they took a decision and went to the GUTS. to humbly ask it to stop the strike and in exchange they'd surrender the position of BOSS! THE GUTS accepted it and everything returned to normal.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Often, to be a boss, you need more GUTS than BRAIN.
