3 Serif Sans Serif Typefaces / Font Styles. . .
A serif font is a type font in which a short line crosses the end of the main strokes of each letter. The cross-strokes guide the reader’s eyes when reading. Cross-strokes are indicated by the circles. A sans serif font is a type font which is straight-edged. Sans serif means “without serif.”

Initial caps should be used randomly throughout a document and only at the beginning of a column if it starts a story. “ Printer’s Quotes”—an elaborate use of quote marks that draw attention to text.
