2. Background: What did we do?
Worked with the Commissioners in Health to raise the need for accessible training to our most valuable workforce
Without whom patients would be in an acute care setting
In August 2014 began working at South Kent Coast CCG as a Primary Care Workforce Development Lead
Recognised that Primary Care involved not just the GP Practices but also the Community Staff which included staff in Care Homes as well as Domiciliary Care Providers
Our most complex and vulnerable patients are looked after staff who have less access to education and training that health care professionals
Those needing care are our most vulnerable in society
There is a need to support those with caring roles (paid and unpaid)
There is a need for consistency of standards for training care across Kent and Medway

3. App Development Building on success: Care Home Training
Worked with the Care Home Nursing Team within South Kent Coast CCG to provide quality assured monthly education events – now across E.Kent

4. Integrating Health and Social care
So we amalgamated the South Kent Coast (SKC) CCG material with Brighton’s, and made available to care providers in SKC:
Next Stage:
Roll out launch on line with a flip booklet available to care providers in SKC with the ultimate goal of supporting and working together for the benefit of all our patients

Originally developed by Brighton and Hove CCG to support carers (professional and others caring for individuals)
Shortlisted for Nursing Times Award 2018
In Kent there are around 47,000 new carers every year. 1 in 9 adults in Kent are Carers and 3 in 5 people in Kent will become a Carer at some point in their lives.
There are also over 10,000 Young Carers in Kent and there could be another 30,000 hidden Young Carers.

SKC worked with the Encompass NHS Vanguard in east Kent (who funded the initial app development) and the Kent and Medway Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP),

8. Engagements events: Carer app scoping session
July 2018 – Workshop to scope and shape requirements from an East Kent product to a Kent and Medway STP product

9. App Development Governance: Core team
An operational working group oversee the initial development of the app and meet monthly

Commissioning Support Unit: Supporting the completion of NHS Digital governance paperwork-DCB160* (for apps nationally) and providing Clinical Safety Officer sign off

10. App Development Organisational home: Stage 1
The STP Local Care and Workforce work stream leads are supporting the initial development of the app
Stage 2
Kent County Council will be the host organisation for the app, through the Design and Learning Centre (DLC)
The DLC will facilitate further development and maintenance of the app once it has launched and will support ongoing promotion
