1 ALGEBRA I @ STATISTICS

2 The numbers below represent the text messages sent by teenagers in a day :
1) Let’s put the numbers in order from least to greatest.

3 MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY
MEAN : the average of a set of data. MEDIAN : the middle number when a data set is arranged in order. When there is an even number of data values, the median is the average of the two middle numbers. MODE : the data item that occurs the most often. There can be no mode, one mode, or more than one mode.

4 2) Find the mean of our data set.
3) Find the median. 4) Find the mode. OUTLIER : a data value that is much greater than or less than the other values. 5) Does there appear to be any outliers in our data set?

5 RANGE : the range of a set of data is the difference between the largest number and the smallest number. 6) Find the range of our data set.

6 FREQUENCY TABLE : groups a set of data into intervals and shows the frequency for each interval.
# Text Messages Frequency 0-20 21-40 41-60 61-80 81-100 7) Complete the frequency table using our data set.

7 8) Make a histogram of our data set.
HISTOGRAM : is a graph that can display the data from a frequency table. A histogram has one bar for each interval of the table. There are no gaps between the bars and the bars are the same width. 8) Make a histogram of our data set.

8 CUMULATIVE FREQUENCY TABLE : shows the number of data values that lie in or below a given value.
# Text Messages Frequency 0-20 21-40 41-60 61-80 81-100 CUMULATIVE FREQUENCY 9) Complete the cumulative frequency table using our data set.

9 A box and whiskers plot is a graph set on a number line that consists of three parts : a box and two whiskers.

10 ALGEBRA I - SECTIONS 12-2 to 12-4 (Statistics)
7/7/2019 10) Draw a box and whiskers plot of our data set. Find the value of x such that the data set has the given mean. 11) 56, 63, 79, 82, x; mean 70 12) 3.2, 4.7, 6.8, 1.9, x; mean 5
